Playgroups will start again in January.
Please let me know if you plan to attend so that I may have enough materials for all.
Feel free to pass along information to others who may be interested in attending.
Playgroup is held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Copeland Drive, Manassas, Virginia.
Just received the information from Rachel Coleman via Twitter to watch Nick Jr. for Signing Time! music videos starting tomorrow. Hope this brings more good things for Signing Time!
The television show, Heroes, has just introduced a Deaf character who "sees" sounds. There was a little bit of signing in the episode, but some was cut off in the way the scenes were filmed.
The current season of the show, "Amazing Race" has a team with a Deaf man who signs and his mother. They came in first place in one of the legs recently and the host was shown signing "You are team number one." If you watch the show, you may catch some more signs along the way. It is a good way to see if you can catch what someone who is fluent in sign is saying while being entertained at the same time.
I received notice from another playgroup mother that Prince William County Schools will be offering a sign language class for basic communication in November. It is called, "Beginning Sign Language for Parents and Primary Caregivers." You must register by Thursday, November 6th. This is a good option for those who cannot attend the playgroups during the day, although I assume that children would stay home and just a parent would attend these sessions.

One of the email groups I am on mentioned a show on one of the religious networks that has ASL in it. This show is supposed to be geared towards kids.
Here is the information I have, if you are interested:
Dr. Wonder's Workshop
on TBN Saturday 1/12 at 12pm
on NRB Saturday 1/12 at 7am
Here is a link to a web site about it: http://www.drwonder.com/
My daughters and I have watched several episodes and enjoy it. It is all in ASL with voice over, so it really makes you work if you are trying to just pay attention to the signs. It might be interesting to try watching it sometime with the sound off to see how much ASL you really know.
Signing Time will no longer be on public television due to an inability to find a sponsor. You may still find their products at Signing Time!
